After selecting some of his favourite pieces of dubstep on “Blow Your Head Volume 1: Diplo Presents Dubstep” (Mad Decent, 2010), the Mad Decent capo returns to compilation territory on the veteran Greensleeves label, an institution in reggae and Jamaican dancehall. Founded in London in 1975 by Chris Cracknell and Chris Sedgwick, Greensleeves boasts a catalogue of around 500 albums among which are classics by Dr Alimantado, Scientist, Gregory Isaacs and many of the young –or not so young- turks of digi-dancehall, from Elephant Man to Vybz Kartel. Supposedly because of the waves Major Lazer made , the label’s directors commissioned Diplo to put together a new mix album with Jamaican flavours. After digging the label’s crates, Pentz has collected fifteen tracks on “Riddimentary: Diplo Selects Greensleeves” which, as Greensleves tell us, “covers twenty plus years of cutting edge, Jamaican and UK hits from the top producers in dub, reggae and dancehall from the 1980s & 90s. The retro flavour and historical context of these selections shines a light on Diplo’s production influences and expert knowledge of the reggae genre.” In stores via VP Records from 8th February.
