It looks like Daphni is here to stay. Shortly after his acclaimed release on Text Records (the split single featuring his “ Ye Ye” and his buddy Four Tet’s “ Pinacles”), the new project of Dan Snaith (aka Caribou) has been chosen as the first release on new label Resista Music. It’s a 12” on which the Canadian shows his sonic restorer side, delivering two edits with different characteristics but equally enchanting. On the A side there’s stellar Afro beat, courtesy of Zimbabwean Thomas Mapfumo. On the flip, bewitched and bewitching post-punk (think Liquid Liquid and A Certain Ratio, drunk on dub and ketamine) from an obscure Dutch band from the eighties. The man’s a sound magician capable of enchanting everything that comes on his path. The only problem is that he leaves you wanting more, much more.
