Crystal Antlers

The appetiser for their new album is called “Summer Solstice”, and the record, the second in the career of Californian psych-rockers Crystal Antlers, will be out on 12th July, two weeks after the Summer solstice on the band’s own label, Recreation Ltd., which was created after their previous home, the historic Touch And Go, shut its doors. The album, the result of a year’s work in a rented barn in Mexico (with the help of Ikey Owens, Anthony Athony Arvizu and Jeff Lewis on engineering and production, and with Jack Endino helping out on the mixing deck), will feature artwork drawn by the legendary illustrator and visual artist Raymond Pettibon. According to the press release, “the production of Two-Way Mirror encompasses an enormous spectrum of sonic textures dynamically flowing from song to song with all of the intensity the band has come to be known for”. Those words, and the song that serves as a first advance track of the album (see below), make us think that on this record, the Californians are going to sound more relaxed and less psychedelic and rock than on “Tentacles” (Touch And Go, 2009).
