The machine around Sleater-Kinney has started to crank into life again. Four years after the announcement of their indefinite hiatus (in split, although the three components of the band never ruled out a reunion in the future), Kill Rock Stars has just given some details of an imminent first solo album by Corin Tucker, the high-pitched voice and nervous guitar of Sleater-Kinney, and previously the soul of riot grrrls Heavens to Betsy. Carrie Brownstein from the band mention the possibility of this last year, when she warned the world of her own new project alongside former colleague Janet Weiss, confirming that Tucker was also working on her first “solo” album. Hearsay says it’s more acoustic (apart from guitars, word has it that cellos and violins have starring roles on the album) and traditional, and that its author has labelled it “more of a middle-aged mom record.” The record, recorded during the first days of this summer in Portland with the help of Sara Lun ( Hungry Ghost, ex- Unwound) and Seth Lorinczi ( Golden Bears), has already been mixed and is ready to be released on Kill Rock Stars on 5th October.
