“Consistency is the enemy of invention.” You’ll come across this motto when visiting the Myspace profile of Well Rounded, a record label whose first, honourable reference was that “U Cheated” introduced us to Deadboy. Seven months later, Deadboy released on Well Rounded an EP called “Cash Antics Vol. 1”, a 12” in which he devoted himself to reshaping in his own way the moulds of generic R&B in the best mashup tradition, blending voices from others and personal bases halfway between funky house, garage and wonky beatmaking. Now, this festive and libidinous series is about to add a second chapter.
The second “R&B refix” from Well Rounded will be a collective affair. Alongside Deadboy (the Londoner contributes his famous rework of Drake’s “ Fireworks”), there’s Gongon & Bad Autopsy, Skinnz, and Gatto Viola & Doc Daneeka spreading slushy voices over a base oscillating between luminous garage, bass-throbbing half-step and a sort of UK funky crossed with Philly Soul. Several of the tracks included on the EP have been available online and heard in sessions for a while, but it’s only now that they’re released together in a physical format, a 12” that will hit stores on 13th December via Cargo.
