A year ago, we took advantage of space devoted to future releases to announce— somewhat hurriedly—a record that was back then just a mere possibility. It was during ATP New York 2009, curated by The Flaming Lips, that Caribou walked on stage as Caribou’s Vibration Ensemble, an unexpected 15-piece orchestra –gathered ex profeso for just that occasion—with members of Enon, Junior Boys, and Born Ruffians, along with Kieren Hebden (Four Tet) and Marshall Allen (Sun Ra Arkestra’s musical director) - and all of them under the baton held by Dan Snaith. The festival crew recorded the performance on multitrack format and, after having been conveniently retouched by Snaith, it will now be released on double vinyl format (two LPs + DVD). This is the great news. The bad news is that the album “Caribou Vibration Ensemble Live at ATP New York” will only be available at future Caribou shows. Another way to look at it is that this is indeed another reason not to miss the highly-recommended Caribou tour.
