A change of plans, a change of forms. The hyperactive and changeable Dev Hynes, better known as Lightspeed Champion, has been possessed by the spirit of America. Since he moved to New York, Hynes has collaborated with people such as Theophilus London, CANT and Solange Knowles. The influence of those artists (of their surroundings, of the music they grew up with) can be heard in the music of his latest incarnation. On “Coastal Grooves”, his debut album as Blood Orange, Hynes momentarily leaves his folk-pop aside and shyly explores the groove and sounds of eighties America, injecting his pop with sounds inspired by sophisticated synth-pop, power pop, R&B, boogie-funk and disco. The album, possibly Hynes' best work to date, has been out on Domino for a week now. If you haven't heard it yet, this is your chance. The stream will be available for a week.
