The US National Public Radio continues to fill our mornings with happiness. Along with Darkstar’s debut album (available since yesterday and until next Tuesday here), in their First Listen section there’s room this week for the solo debut of David Portner, a.k.a. Avey Tare. Two years after “Merriweather Post Pavilion” (Domino, 2010), Portner has conceived an album that goes deeper into the accessible experimentation promoted lately by Animal Collective, though he broaches it from a more restrictive perspective, going for simpler, more lineal structures and less timbre accumulation—synthetic timbres most of the times—whose reflection is close to psychedelia pop. The streaming of “Down There” will be available as of Wednesday 20th October. Five days later, the album will hit stores.
