Arcade Fire

Spike Jonze collaboration to premiere at Berlinale

Arcade Fire Spike Jonze The video of “The Suburbs” was so confusing and left so many things to be explained that it could only be seen as a disconnected fraction of a bigger and more ambitious project. As we imagined, the clip was a preview of the short film Arcade Fire had recorded last summer in collaboration with director Spike Jonze. The film, titled “Scenes From The Suburbs”, will be shown for the first time within the short film programme of the upcoming Berlinale (the Berlin International Film Festival), to take place between 10th and 20th February in the German city. According to a recent press release, “Spike Jonze expands the music video into a film without abandoning the structure of a clip. The future has become reality. And the threat lies in the proximity of the military. Memories of a past summer.” The rest, for now, you’ll have to make up yourself using the images below, although we remind you that the band described the film as “a science fiction B-movie”.

The definitive programme of the Berlinale won’t be announced until the end of January, so we have no more details as yet on the date(s) the film will be shown. In any case, if you’re an Arcade Fire fan and you can afford to travel in February, you have an attractive destination in Berlin.{vimeo width="100%" height="270"}17116744{/vimeo}
