Music and clothing trends have always gone hand in hand, so it doesn’t come as surprise that more and more brands are approaching prestigious bands and musicians with the aim of using their names on their collections. The last ones to join the list of musicians-designers are the guys from Animal Collective. Like Ramones, Danielson, Mastodon and No Age, the authors of “Merriweather Post Pavilion” will soon have their own model of mid-top shoes through the Keep brand, an apparel company which introduces itself as an environmentally-friendly, cruelty-free clothing and footwear manufacturer. The Animal Collective collection (so far there’s just one model, “The Tobin”, with illustrations by Avey Tare; the designs made by the rest of the band will be announced in the weeks to come) will officially hit retailers in March next year, but Keep’s online store is now accepting pre-orders of a charity line. All the proceeds will go to Socorro Island Conservation Fund, a non-profit charity helping to preserve the biosphere of the Revillagigedo Archipelago off Baja in California, where Deakin and Geologist go diving.
As a plus for buying the shoes, Animal Collective have decided to offer their music as a gift. Those pre-ordering before 18th October will also receive a cassette containing previously unreleased music. More info and pre-orders here.
