Since right after this year's Barcelona edition ended, last June, Sónar has been selling tickets for next year's event at a reduced price. However, that doesn't mean the International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art considers this season finished. Quite the contrary, actually. After its residencies in São Paulo, Tokyo and Cape Town, the Barcelona brand is getting hungry for the first ‘Sónar North American Tour’, a traveling event that will visit eight cities in the USA and Canada this autumn.
Between 31st October and 10th November, the ‘Sónar North American Tour’ will stop at some of the most emblematic venues of Chicago, Toronto, New York, Montreal, Boston, Denver, Oakland and Los Angeles. Each city will have a one-night event featuring live performances by Die Antwoord, Azari & III, and Paul Kalkbrenner, and DJ sets by Seth Troxler, Tiga (everywhere except Oakland and Los Ángeles), Gesaffelstein (Chicago, Toronto and Denver only), and Nic Fanciulli.
As the organisation explains, Sónar arrives in North America at a time when the continent is one of the most dynamic markets in the world when it comes to live electronic music events, and it's still growing fast. In that context, Sónar wants to find its own place, offering a new kind of live spectacle, with the characteristics that have made it a leading brand in avant-garde music in the past 20 years: a kaleidoscopic vision, open-minded and cosmopolitan, open to all the new ideas and trends that shape the panorama of modern electronic culture.
