Jack White Gives Away An Impossible 12” At 3 RPM

Third Man Records' unique way to celebrate its third anniversary

Jack White's Third Man Records, threw a party in Nashville a few weeks ago to celebrate its third anniversary. Besides the concerts by White himself and the legendary Greg Cartwright - and the streams of booze - the record they gave the attendees as a present was most remarkable: a 12” with the explanatory title “The First Three Years Of Blue Series Singles On One LP At 3 RPM”. It's the first ever record intended to be played at three revolutions per minute, which no non-manipulated record player can do.

The rarity - as said, unique in the world - needs to be played while applying pressure on the turntable (with your finger, for instance) in order to slow it down to the right speed, although, as the label half-jokingly states, “it would take 333 days of 33 hours training per day for your finger, hand, and arm muscles to spin at a continuous speed of 3rpm for X hours and X minutes”. Watch one of the intrepid owners of the collector's item face the challenge.
