Mercury Prize 2012 Shortlist Revealed

Jessie Ware, Django Django, Alt-J, and Richard Hawley are among the 12 nominees

The jury of the Barclaycard Mercury Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in British music, have revealed the shortlist of twelve artists for this year's edition, the winner of which will be considered the maker of the best album released in the UK and Ireland of 2012. The selection included new voices in R&B ( Jessie Ware and her delicious “ Devotion”), indie-rock classics ( Richard Hawley and his “ Standing At The Sky’s Edge”), alchemists of cubist rock, off the rails electronica and new soul ( Django Django and Alt-J), and other, bigger artists, such as Plan B and Ben Howard. Check the complete list to the right of this article. The winner, and successor to PJ Harvey's “Let England Shake” will be announced on 1st November.
