Last year, the induction ceremony of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was, once again, surrounded by controversy, due to Axl Rose trying to boycott his former Guns N' Roses band mates. We'll see what will happen this year, but for now, there are some pleasant surprises among the nominees. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame hasn't been a strictly rock and roll affair for some time now, opening up to other kinds of music as well. So this year, we see names like Kraftwerk, Public Enemy and N.W.A. on the list. It's completed by Rush, Randy Newman, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Deep Purple, Donna Summer, Heart, Albert King, Chic, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Marvelettes, The Meters, and Procol Harum.
And for the first time ever, fans can participate in the selection. Between now and 3rd December, the public can vote for their five favourites among the nominees. While the public vote won't be decisive for the final result, it will be taken into account when the jury casts its vote.
