Stones Throw is one of the most emblematic labels in the hip hop universe, always a guarantee of quality and integrity, removed from the trends and scheming of soulless marketing tricks. Whilst the label was in the news last year because it celebrated its 19th anniversary, now it has just been announced that it director Jeff Broadway is preparing a documentary titled “Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton”, which will explore the history and cult around the label founded by Peanut Butter Wolf.
It’s an adventure that started out, as explained in the trailer you can see below, marked by the murder of Charizma, Wolf’s creative partner. However, over time it has become one of the most remarkable success stories in independent music. To show this trajectory, the film will include previously unreleased archival material, home recordings of the main stars, and footage of live performances, as well as in-depth interviews with many of the key figures who helped to put Stones Throw on the map.
The documentary is still in the production phase. To help pay the cost of completing it, Broadway has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $35,000. You can make your donation here.
