If this news had you waiting impatiently for the moment you could download “Follow the Readers”, the new mixtape by The Kickdrums, you were probably quite disappointed to find that “Ridin’”, the collaboration between Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky wasn't on it in the end. It was all the more surprising because a day before the release of the mixtape, a promotional teaser surfaced using exactly that collabo (and they had tracks to choose from, as there's material on it by people like Freddie Gibbs, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire and Casey Veggies). A dirty marketing trick? The Brooklyn producer duo now explains that “Ridin’” fell off the tracklist for one reason: the track generated so much expectation so fast, that A$AP Rocky decided to keep it for himself. Apparently, the tune is included on Rocky's official debut album, “LongLiveA$AP”.
The Kickdrums used Twitter to give an explanation: “Had to pull the Lana – A$AP track due to label reasons. Song got too big too fast. Gonna explain in more detail in an interview today.” A little while later they added: “A$AP wants the track for his album. It's as much his and Lana’s music as it is ours so we have to respect that.” He's not half smart, that Mr. Rocky.
