R&S is an independent electronic music label founded in 1984 in Ghent, Belgium, by Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes. It is currently based in London and directed by Andy Whittaker and Dan Foat. In the early years, the label mainly released new beat and acid house records. In the early nineties, they became one of the key labels in European techno, thanks to releases by artists like Aphex Twin, Derrick May, Ken Ishii, CJ Bolland, Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Joey Beltram, Model 500 and Dave Angel. Many of their singles have become classics. The label also released Aphex Twin's debut album, “Selected Ambient Works 85-92”. Around that time, R&S released the famous compilation series “In Order To Dance”.
After a period of inactivity between 2001 and 2006, the label reactivated to reissue many of their big nineties hits. In 2008, they moved to London, and a new era started under a new management. Since then, R&S has invested a lot aTelecine in new talent, especially coming from the British bass scene, such as James Blake, Pariah, Space Dimension Controller, Lone, Blawan, The Chain, Lone, and Vondelpark, among others. In early 2012, they signed American duo Teengirl Fantasy.
