Mexican Summer
Present location: New York, USA
Since: 2008
Sub-label: Software Records
Mexican Summer is a New York label founded by another label, Kernado Records, in 2008 (they share an office in Brooklyn). In their first months, they focussed on limited releases on 10-inch and digital. Today, however - with 100 references in their catalogue - they have released music on all formats. In just three years, some of the most promising artists on the worldwide underground scene have found a home on the imprint - including No Joy, Best Coast, Washed Out, Tamaryn and The Soft Pack - covering genres that range from post-punk to surf, and from dream-pop to chill-wave. They have recently started Software, a sub-label directed by Daniel Lopatin, on which they've released records by Lopatin's personal or associated projects: Oneohtrix Point Never, Ford & Lopatin and Airbird.
