Hyperdub is a British label founded by Steve Goodman, alias Kode9, in 2004. It was established in London and specialises in British bass music - dubstep, UK garage and grime. Goodman has stated that he started the label as “a mutation of British electronic music”. The birth of Hyperdub coincided with the rise of dubstep, and in 2004 it made its first release with a single by Kode9 himself. In 2005, the label gained notoriety with the release of Burial's singles and subsequent debut album. From then on, Hyperdub was one of the most respected and influential labels in contemporary electronic music, even though its release pace wasn't particularly high. This changed in 2008, when they began signing artists like Ikonika, Darkstar, King Midas Sound, Ill Blu and Terror Danjah. Besides several EPs by artists like Hype Williams, Funkystepz, DOK and Ossie, in 2011, Hyperdub released the second album of Kode9 + The Spaceape, “Black Sun”.
