Domino Recording Company, commonly known as simply Domino, is one of the most important independent labels in the UK (though they have offices in the USA, France and Germany as well). It was started by Laurence Bell and Jacqui Rice in London, in 1993. The first release on the platform was an EP by Sebadoh, licensed from Sub Pop for release in the UK. Many of the imprint's first releases are from American bands signed to Drag City, such as Smog, Will Oldham and Royal Trux. The relationship between the two labels still stands strong.
Success didn't come immediately - mainly because Brit-pop ruled the scene in the early days of the label. However, Domino took some big leaps forward at the turn of this century, signing bands like Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys and The Kills. At present, the roster is relatively extensive, with veteran bands including Animal Collective, The Fall and Junior Boys, alongside recent talents like Anna Calvi, Austra and Twin Sister.
