Stockholm is on the map of new punk, thanks to Holograms' eponymous debut album, released this week on Captured Tracks. When the release was announced, they promised their music would oscillate between the violent carelessness of punk and the new wave shine of the early 80s, which becomes clear on the first two tracks on the LP. While “Monolith” is dark and violent, following track “Chasing My Mind”, is much friendlier, thanks to the bright synths. The echoes of the cream of the genre (Suicide, Ramones, Buzzcocks, Joy Division) are there. These people have mojo.
