Yesterday, “Ancient Future”, Christopher Willits and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s latest joint work, came out. In the wake of “Ocean Fire”, their last joint album, this album gravitates between Sakamoto’s piano sketches and Willits’ layers of guitars and digital effects to create five delicately-shaped ambient compositions with an analgesic effect. In spite of its restful heart, however, there is a certain air of tension and uncertainty in the album, where one can perceive the “trajectory through inner conflict, resolution and, ultimately, acceptance” mentioned in the press release. But you should really listen to it in its entirety for yourself. Remember that you can already take it home on vinyl, CD or digital download via Ghostly.
