Sónar 2012 Continues To Add Value | Music News

A few months before its celebration, the Sónar Barcelona bill is starting to become absolutely irresistible. While the previous batch of names already included the likes of The Roots, New Order, James Blake, Nicolas Jaar, Modeselektor, Die Antwoord, Mouse On Mars, SquarepusherJames Murphy, Azari & III, Daniel Miller, Jacques Greene, Blawan, Ital, Julio Bashmore, Thundercat, Cooly G, Maya Jane Coles, Fatboy Slim, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin and pop sensation Lana Del Rey, among many others, the list just keeps growing - and with it, our impatience.

Among the thirty new confirmations is Flying Lotus. The LA master will be doing two shows at Sónar By Day: one headlining the showcase of his Brainfeeder label, the other as part of the SonarDôme line-up curated by Red Bull Music Academy (of which he himself was a student over five years ago). The line-up also includes two revelations of the year: Canadian rugged and dark synth-pop duo Trust, and Russian DJ and producer Nina Kraviz, who will be presenting the house gems from her first album on the SonarDôme stage.

The RBMA-curated stage will also feature Gomma-signed Italian psychedelic disco-housers Esperanza, and Radiorifle, the new project by Faktor and Clinic. Annie Mac will once again host the BBC Radio 1 showcase, including the live broadcast of an Essential Mix, a live show by Simian Mobile Disco (presenting their new album “Unpatterns”) and the sets by Mac herself, French duo Brodinski vs. Gesaffelstein and Briton beatmakers Jack Beats.

Many of the new confirmations are from Spain: live shows by Arbol, El_Txef_A, Koulomek (with a visual and interactive electronic show), Fábel and Microfeel, and DJ sets by DJ2D2, Amable, Eduardo de la Calle, Logical Nonsense, Blastto, Coyu, Yall DJs, Machine Beats, Igor Marijuán, Guillamino and Diego Armando (celebrating ten years of the Bankrobber label with a back to back set).

With regards to SonarPro - the Sónar section dedicated to new technologies - Mostly Robot (a group formed by Jamie Lidell, Tim Exile, Jeremy Ellis, DJ Shiftee and Mister Jimmy) will make their debut with an exclusive electronic jam, supported by visuals from the Pfadfinderei collective.

In addition to the new names, Sónar has just released a new fragment of the film presenting the event's official graphic campaign. You can watch it here, or below.

The 19th International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art will take place on 14th, 15th and 16th June in Barcelona. Find out where to get your tickets here.
