The Southbank Centre in London has revealed that Antony Hegarty will be curating the 19th edition of the Meltdown Festival, to be held in the British capital between 1st and 12th August. The leader of Antony and the Johnsons is added to a long list of directors who have performed the same task in the past; such as Jarvis Cocker, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Massive Attack and Morrissey.
The event will be held in different spaces at the cultural centre on the banks of the river Thames. During those twelve days, there will be room for music, debates and performances according to the tastes of the British artist. Hegarty explains: "I want to create a kind of paradise. I want to walk through that forest and see and hear the hardcore beauty and strength in art and music that makes sense to me. The weather is changing and everybody knows it. I want to participate; what is my relationship and responsibility to the world around me? Frontier expressions of emotion and beauty can be fantastic tools with which to enter that discussion". The full line-up is expected to be announced in April.
