Yesterday we told you about the return of The Bug with his new label Acid Ragga. Today there's more news on the subject. As the name suggests, Kevin Martin's new adventure will combine his trademark electronic dancehall and two key machines from the acid house era: the TB 303 and the TR 808. He will furthermore be collaborating with more than one A-lister, such as Death Grips, Gonjasufi, Grouper, JK Flesh (another project by Justin Broadrick from Godflesh and Jesu), The Spaceape, and Flowdan & Warrior Queen. All releases will be on 7” vinyl, eventually to be collected on The Bug's new album, “Angels & Devils”.
Despite the vintage equipment, the label says “this isn't your parent's second coming of the summer of love acid. This time there will be no smiley faces, no ecstasy, and no future. The world is truly fucked and Kevin Martin can always be relied on to soundtrack armageddon time. Rather this dystopian acid takes influence from pioneers like Stakker's 'Humanoid' , Plastikman, Phuture's 'Cocaine/Your Only Friend', Aphex Twin etc, and twists it into Kevin's own perverted take on classic dancehall. Harkening back to when Sleng Teng refined Jamaican music as we know it, the Acid Ragga imprint will forever scar the face of raggamuffin reggae.”
