Foals Are Next Up In The “Tapes” DJ Mix Series | Music News

Foals tweeted yesterday that they have a mix ready for the Tapes” series, due out on !K7 on 2nd July. They're the third band to contribute to the series, after The Rapture and The Big Pink. One look at the tracklist (to the right of this article) tells us that the Oxford gang have good taste, including essential names from the modern electronic underground such as Nicolas Jaar, Caribou, and Julio Bashmore alongside classics like Cerrone and Marshall Jefferson.

Edwin Congreave was in charge of putting the set together, stating that “It’s easy to throw some random music together and call it a DJ mix, but I wanted to make something more ambitious than that.” He also reveals that the track choice was based on each band member's personal taste. “We wanted it to reflect the taste of the whole band, so I picked music from the last five years of shared listening. We used to tour in an ex-Royal Mail delivery van – the DIY band cliché – and we drove ourselves to shows listening to each others' playlists on a ropey old cassette player. Nineties math rock, Greek folk music, Kompakt compilations, early Metronomy demos, endless Arthur Russell, sometimes infuriatingly eclectic, but it stretched our minds wide open.”
