Exitmusic, the New York duo formed by actress Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church - who lit up more than one of our afternoons with their brand of melancholic and vaporous dream-pop - have their debut album ready. Secretly Canadian, which also released their first EP, is releasing “Passage” on 22nd May. EP track. Although “The Modern Age” is on it (but in a re-recorded version), the other nine songs are new. The duo recorded the effort at the Rare Book Room studios in Brooklyn, with Nicholas Vernhes (Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter) at the helm, and with two new band members: drummer Dru Prentiss, and Nicholas Shelestak, who takes care of all the electronic bits.
The result, they say, is powerful, and captures the chilling beauty of their home recordings. They're promising new doses of dream-pop, only this time epic like “Lawrence Of Arabia”. Expect some soporific tracks, heavenly, but also some that are jubilant, and others that are apocalyptic. As a first advance track, the label is releasing the title track, which sounds much more epic than the material on the EP. The two star in the video, though naturally it's Aleksa Palladino who takes the centre stage, surrounded by smoke and water.
