On 24th February, The Belbury Tales, the new album by Belbury Poly, will come out. Jim Jupp, co-founder of the Ghost Box imprint, maintains his usual sound - though it does sound more organic than we're used to. The Briton collaborated with Jim Musgrave on drums and Christopher Budd on bass, as well as playing some instruments himself - such as guitar, melodica, sitar, ocarina and a variety of electronic keyboards and synths. The result sounds like something close to prog-rock, without losing the projects trademark timbre, much in debt with library music and spacey proto-electronica.
As usual with Jupp, the record has a strong conceptual component: The Belbury Tales “takes in medievalism, the supernatural, childhood, the re-invention of the past, initiation and pilgrimage (both spiritual and physical).” If you want to find out what that means, listen to the advance track below.
