Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancy, the mother of the eternal J Dilla, has started Ruff Draft Records. The label's goal is to release unpublished material by the legendary late beatmaker. The first title will be the compilation “Rebirth of Detroit”, on which Motor City MCs (including Dilla’s brother Illa J, Amp Fiddler, Phat Kat, Frank Nitt, Guilty Simpson, Cool Kids’ Chuck Inglish and Danny Brown) rap over Dilla's unreleased beats. Both the label and the compilation will be presented on 25th May at a party at the Magic Stick in Detroit, while the official album release will be on the 6th June. Regarding the future releases on the platform, it's quite possible material coming from the tapes a Detroit record seller found recently in an abandoned warehouse will be among them.
As an appetiser, here we leave you with Danny Brown's contribution to “Rebirth Of Detroit”, “Jay'Dee's Revenge”.
