Grimes’s previous video for “Oblivion” left us both surprised and disconcerted, particularly considering how little a background of motocross demonstrations and muscle-bound men seemed to go with the slight Canadian fairy’s music. For the video for “Nightmusic”, the elfin performer returns to more familiar territory - see “Crystal Ball” - walking through a grey forest, a habitat that fits much better with the image we have of her. There is no lack of esoteric imagery, there is a hot outfit and the shameless product placement of those vagina-shaped rings that she has designed with jeweller and sculptor Morgan Black.
