Here we have the feeling, and it isn’t entirely pleasant, that “The Only Place” (Wichita/Mexican Summer, 2012) - Best Coast’s somewhat dull, insipid second album - has stalled with the title song. The song arrived as a first advance and first single from the album round about the month of March, and today it is still the one that you mainly hear on the radio, the one that the band plays on television sets, blandished as the album’s main attraction, over and over again, as if there were no other replacement. Even so, this time “The Only Place” comes to us visually, and that is always a plus. Ace Norton directs.
