Arcade Fire

The Suburbs

Artist: Arcade Fire

At last we’ve learned what that secret project by Arcade Fire and Spike Jonze was all about. The Jackass co-creator has directed the video for “The Suburbs”, the entrance—and exit—door to a maze-like, multi-layered album inspired by Win Butler’s childhood in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Spike’s video focuses on the life and dreams of an adolescent living on the streets of Houston, and, of course, things then get twisted. We don’t quite understand what happens or why to these kids in the video, so it may be this is just a first chapter of what Arcade Fire announced with some grandeur a while ago would be “a science fiction B-movie”. Will there be a follow-up?
