Joanna Newsom Lets Us Hear How She Sounded 13 Years Ago

Drag City rescues “Instrumental 1999”, six minutes of harp music

Artist: Joanna Newsom

Record Label: Drag City

Genre: folk, Neoclásica

Long before “The Milk-Eyed Mender” (Drag City, 2004), Joanna Newsom was making music. Specifically, one can pin-point the beginning of her career to 1999, when the “the elf” got her driver’s licence. Then, travelling with her harp in her car to the music halls in the area, Newsom started to make a name for herself on the Tahoe musical circuit. From this time came “Instrumental 1999”, which Drag City has decided to reclaim now. This instrumental piece, in which only a harp is playing for six minutes, will be included on the compilation “The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation”.
