Toro Y Moi
Toro Y Moi is the stage name of Chazwick Bundick, a producer from South Carolina who rose to fame between 2009 and 2010 as one of the key players in the so-called chill-wave movement. He studied graphic design at the same university as Ernest Greene (Washed Out), another big name in the genre and a great friend of Bundick. His first releases were some extremely limited 7-inches and cassettes, followed by his first, critically acclaimed album, “Causers Of This” (released in January 2010 on Carpark Records). His biggest success to date came with the release of “Underneath The Pine” in February 2011. On this LP the artist expanded his sound palette to incorporate styles including funk, disco and even dream-pop. He had clearly outgrown the chill-wave label on the new record, as the media noted enthusiastically. In September 2011 came a five-track EP, “Freaking Out”, on which he explored yet more new territories, including French music and R&B. He has also done remixes for Neon Indian, Tegan And Sara, Washed Out, Cut Copy and Tyler, The Creator.
