Derwin Schlecker combines various influences when he makes music under his Gold Panda moniker: hip-hop, IDM, down-tempo, oriental music, crunk and house - always with a great sense of melody and psychedelia, like an exotic trip to an empty rave, with a clearly lo-fi sound. Schlecker grew up in Chelmsford, lived in Japan and studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. Before dedicating himself to music he used to work in  libraries and record stores. In 2009 he surfaced with “Quitter's Raga”, released on 7-inch by the Make Mine label and his own Notown imprint. Thanks to the success of the song, he started remixing artists like Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, HEALTH and The Field, among others. In 2010 he signed a contract with American label Ghostly International for his debut album “Lucky Shiner”. The record was named Best British Album of the Year by The Guardian, and in 2011 it was followed by “Companion” (a compilation of rarities, singles and B-sides) and his contribution to the “DJ-Kicks” series.
