CocoRosie are a band led by the Casady sisters, Bianca (Coco) and Sierra (Rosie). Although the sisters were born and raised in America, the band formed in France – when Bianca appeared at Sierra's Parisian apartment (where she had moved in order to try and make it as an opera singer) after a few years of not seeing each other. Together they composed the songs of their debut album, “La Maison De Mon Rêve”. Initially only meant for the ears of their closest friends - Touch and Go convinced them to release it in 2004. Their next album was released a year later: “Noah’s Ark” featured collaborations with Antony Hegarty, Devendra Banhart, Jana Hunter (Lower Dens) and French rapper Spleen. On the album, they mixed traditional instruments with samples from unusual sound sources – a practice that would become something of a habit for the band.

In 2007 what is widely considered as their masterpiece - “The Adventures Of Ghosthorse And Stillborn” - was released. It is a collection of songs about the Casady family and their late brother. It was produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson, a close collaborator of Björk, and partly recorded in a stable in the south of France. “Grey Oceans” is their last album to date, released on Sub Pop in 2010. It featured fewer electronic arrangements, a cleaner sound and more varied instrumentation. Often linked to the New Weird America movement, the sisters' sound is based on freak folk, with deviations to genres like electronica, opera, pop, blues and hip-hop.
