If you’re into North American art-rock with hardcore-punk soul that had –or still has, at least that’s what we would like to think, as the label has been on hiatus for a while now- one of its epicentres in Dischord, you will probably know Asa Osborne as the guitarist of Lungfish and The Pupils. Like Daniel Higgs, his partner in both bands, Osborne has been releasing his personal music as Zomes. Under that moniker, Osborne has been releasing a series of recordings focussed on the sonic exploration of drones, psychedelica and cyclic repetition. “Earth Grid” collects 15 soundscapes from the early days of Zomes, when he was experimenting with keyboards, distortion pedals and beats created with tape loops. The record, recorded on tape by Osborne at his home studio and mastered by Bob Weston, will be in stores on 12th April on download, CD (presented in a gatefold sleeve) and LP (with download code included).
Zomes will be touring in the USA and Europe in April and May. This Sunday (3rd April) he will be sharing an evening with Daniel Higgs, The Skull Defekts and Paul Wirkus at the Unsound NY festival. You can get your tickets here.
Unsound Festival New York takes place from 1 to 10 April, at various locations in New York. Tickets are on sale here. Unsound Festival New York is presented by Fundacja Tone, the Polish Cultural Institute in New York and the Goethe-Institut New York, in Cooperation With The Trust For Mutual Understanding, The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, City of Krakow, Krakow Festival Office and others.
