Chris Isaak's “Wicked Game” is a timeless classic, nobody doubts that. Even so, it's surprising that in the space of a few weeks we've heard several different versions of the track coming from the North American indie underground. First it was Widowspeak (on the B side of their second 7” on Captured Tracks) and now it's Washed Out. The interpretation is part of the set Ernest Greene did for Sirius XMU Sessions. He respects the tempo and harmonic structure of the original, heats it up and changes the guitars for some lax synths. Listening to this somewhat gloomy version we can understand why Diplo called Washed Out's album “kinda limp”.
