Stones Throw is celebrating its fifteenth birthday. And like any great anniversary, there are commemorative collectables. Starting next Thursday 14th April, the Californian label will be celebrating a series of concerts that will be recorded straight onto vinyl, in real time. While the band is playing (Mayer Hawthorne & The County will be the first) at Capsule Labs in Los Angeles, the engineers will be mixing and mastering the audio on the spot. That way, when the gig’s ended, the master will be ready for the pressing-up of 500 vinyl copies. And that’s not the only fetish news: as a way of introducing its latest signing, Vex Ruffin, the LA label has created the first ever “ postcard single”. Run to the post office for stamps.
