The Golden Filter
Now we’ve entered Advent season, the Internet is being bombarded with all kinds of jokes –and piss-takes- about the always terrible Christmas period. Even in the underground, it’s Christmas songs galore. More subtle than most, The Golden Filter decided to kill two birds with one stone: “White Nights” is their Advent present, their song of snow, thick socks and Santa Claus; but at the same time it’s a heart-felt tribute to the recently passed-away Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, because the track is a Psychic TV cover. Don’t be fooled by the bells and naïve chimes, as part of the lyrics are taken from the death tapes of Reverend Jim Jones, recordings of Jones’ speeches on the eve of the big Jonestown collective suicide. White nights?
