Stop reading now if you suffer from anxiety or are afraid of stroboscopic lights, because the latest Sufjan Stevens video is pure photosensitivity. An excess of colours and lights, of old visual effects, masks, strange dances, arm flapping and stray movements in stop motion pervade the video for “Too Much”, directed by Deborah Johnson. It’s obvious the director has been loyal to Sufjan’s creative premises: the more sugar, the better. Coinciding with the launch of the video, there’s also his performance on a famous American late night show, and judging by the result, the American is definitely going through a baroque phase. Listen up, you coolhunters: the Aztecs-on-acid style is here to stay.
