Last week, PJ Harvey performed on the Jools Holland show, bringing a few tracks of her acclaimed “Let England Shake” (Island, 2011). Polly showed up dressed as in recent press photos, like a Greek muse. The songs played were: “Let England Shake”, “ The Words That Maketh Murder” and “The Glorious Land”, the three that have two things in common: they’re the catchiest songs on the album and, of course, they’re sharp chronicles of the times. Polly re-opens the wound with her unyielding lyrics and that autoharp sound she’s so fascinated by lately. Magnetic.
