Fans who are hungry for new songs are about to be served. Yesterday, PJ Harvey kept her promise and showed us one of the tracks from her much-awaited new album. The selection wasn’t “Let England Shake”, as we expected, but “Written On The Forehead”, the penultimate track of a record that will be available in mid-February. Far from the sober experimentation with her voice and a handful of acoustic instruments on it’s predecessor “White Chalk” (Island Universal, 2007), the first advance of “Let England Shake” is more polymorphic and ambiguous. Watery guitars in the 4AD vein, samples from some obscure roots-reggae record and sing-a-long folk that wouldn’t be out of place in a church setting.
