John Maus’ music has always had a messianic quality to it, and his new video confirms that once more. “Believer” is the closing track of his new album, “We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves”. Apart from its passionate title, the track takes us to high levels of pop transcendence via ceremonious organs and Maus’ devotional way of singing. The accompanying video doesn’t spare the beatific elements, and invites us on an excursion to the Minnesota poet’s particular Eden. Directed by Jennifer Juniper Stratford using “a mixture of rare vintage video equipment and experimental techniques”, the video is a feast of psychedelic textures in which Maus shares the screen with old Kung-Fu scenes. All that, while we’re looking for paradise lost among psychotropic clouds. We remind you that the record will be out at the end of June on CD and vinyl.
