Lady Luck (Hudson Mohawke's Schmink Wolf Re-fix)
“ Mirrorwriting” has been on repeat for days now at PlayGround HQ, and why deny it: the album debut of soulful singer-songwriter Jamie Woon has us enchanted; it’s perfect to soothe the soul, and reconnect with that sensual self that gets buried so many times under the daily stresses, the deadlines, the bills. The arrival of “Mirrorwriting” is doubly fun as, given Woon’s recent collaborations and inclinations (remember how “ Night Air” involved people like Burial, Ramadanman, Deadboy and Becoming Real), the album promises to produce a flood of remixes that in turn we don’t doubt will be exciting. For starters, here’s Hudson Mohawke, placing Woon’s voice on a backdrop of rigid beats and synthesiser bursts that debate between the sweetness of R&B and the cold overtones of witch house. The album will be out on 11th April via Candent Songs/ Polydor.
