I Only Know (What I Know Now)
Yesterday was the date chosen at R&S for the release of “Klavierwerke”, the fourth EP this year by a grown-up James Blake (inwards more than outwards), who’s turned into the leader of that new nebulous and more emotional electronic music coming out of the breeding ground of post-dubstep. Pianos, silences and voices stolen from the body that sings. It sounds as if a quiet David Sylvian were to produce a stuttering Bon Iver, accompanied on the piano by a sedated Antony Hegarty, devoted to exorcising the demons of his female side. Sense, sensibility and “hypnagogic” magic by James Blake.
