A week ago, not one, but two new albums were released by Grouper, the shy princess of narcotic drone-pop. As we said earlier this year, “Alien Observer” and “Dream Loss” are complementary works “meant to stand solidly on their own, and also as satellites in the same system,” in the words of Liz Harris herself. To accompany the release, yesterday the official video of “Alien Observer” (the track) was released. While the music watches the stars, the images focus on earth (literally). Directed by Hamish Parkinson, the clip features a set of organic textures with Liz and a friend blending together and with the earth. A strange video, but it fits like a glove over Harris’ spectral lullaby. After all, pixie music belongs in the woods.
