Gang Gang Dance
Sonic explorers Gang Gang Dance have their “Eye Contact” ready, a new album that marks their debut on 4AD. Yesterday, “Glass Jar” swept over the web like a typhoon, the opening track and a new, giant step in the astral career of these “Psychic Warriors of Brooklyn”. Because they’re bored by conventions, they chose an 11-minute track to present their new effort, its sheer gravitational ambrosia sitting nicely between the celestial and the brutal. Infinite gliding layers of synthesisers that oscillate between cosmic psychedelica and new age goodness, combining crystalline notes with corrosive pads, and the voice of Lizzi Bougatsos sounding like the lament of a Martian woman who’s lost her lover in intergalactic combat. We couldn’t be more overwhelmed upon hearing this and we eagerly wait for 9th May, when the album will be released. Recorded by Chris Coady and with the collaboration of Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, it promises to be one of the highlights of the year.
