A couple of days ago we told you about one of the most bizarre shorts of the year being screened at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. We were talking about “Umshini Wam”, a film starring Die Antwoord under the direction of the Machiavellian Harmony Korine. Well, here it is, and we’re warning you: it won’t leave anyone indifferent. Ninja and Yo-Landi are two homeless and paraplegic gangstas who, for want of a better reason, decide to radically change their lives and steal the “Rolls Royce of wheelchairs”. It goes without saying that the couple have no problem with taking out anyone or anything that gets in their way. XXL blows, verbal diarrhoea marked by a string of “fucks”, a basketball game that puts the Olympic spirit to the test, the power of tuning and an endless amount of bullets are the ingredients of this 15-minute piece. There is a different South Africa, without vuvuzelas.
Die Antwoord will be appearing at Sónar 2011. The Festival will take place from 16 th to 18th June at the CCCB in Barcelona, the Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet, L’Auditori in Barcelona and the Teatre Grec in Barcelona. Tickets are on sale here.
Sónar Galicia will be held on 17 th and 18th June at the EXPOCoruña in A Coruña. Tickets are on sale here .
