First they lowered the amount of rusty noise. Then they added guitars, shoved the sound cards and computers aside, walked into the studio, toned down the DIY ethic a bit, and beefed up their sound (for better or for worse, depending on your taste), establishing themselves for the occasion as a new wave band. The progression of Cold Cave over the past few years has been constant. A good piece of evidence of that is “Villains Of The Moon”, with which they close “Cherish The Light Years” (Matador, 2011). The band show they’re confident about their new melodic pillars, without dropping their enigmatic (and mournful) presence.
